Required Zouk Techniques for Level 4
To be best prepared for the more challenging movements and head movement techniques we’ll be focusing on level 4, students are expected to be able to demonstrate:
Ability to connect with partner
Proper posture & frame (leg & hip engagement, upright posture, shoulder engagement, hand positioning, arm engagement, etc.)
Accurate footwork of Level 1-3 moves
Ability to do moves with comfort in a social dance
Proper turning technique
Appropriate use of torsion
An understanding of proper use of elasticity/inertia
The fundamentals need to feel good.
Prerequisite Moves (Lv4)
To help assess students’ fluency in the techniques above, students are expected to be able to consistently lead/follow the following moves:
Leading from the hands: raul/chicote
Leading from the hands: body rolls
Leading from the hands: isolations
Hammerlock
Close Embrace
Basic traveling / floorcraft
Isolations & body waves
Gostosinho Variations
Differentiating between a “lunge” vs. a “cross” entrance and exit (ex. in bonus/boomerang, or yoyo)
90 degree and 180 degree viradhina
Shadow position
Pião & pião with ronde
Traveling turns
Single footed spins (able to lead or follow 3 single footed spins in a row)
Balão (stationary, balão apagado not required)
